Well-known Indian ghazal and playback singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at the age of 72.

He started his career with a release of a ghazal album titled Aahat in 1980 and subsequently recorded many hits.

He gained fame when Mahesh Bhatt invited him to sing "Chitthi Aayee Hai" for the 1986 film "Naam," instantly elevating his celebrity status.

Pankaj Udhas received the Padma Shri in 2006, India's fourth-highest civilian honor.

He died at 11 am on February 26, 2024, after a prolonged battle with cancer at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences and honored the renowned musician.
