Dengue Fever in Florida

Florida officials have issued a health warning for dengue after a rise in cases across the state.

The state’s Department of Health has now placed Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, under an illness alert.

Spread of Dengue

Dengue is spread to people through infected Aedes mosquitoes.

Daytime Feeders

Aedes mosquitoes are active during the daytime, especially during early morning and late afternoon.

Symptoms of Dengue

As per CDC, the most common symptoms are fever and one or more of the following ~ Headache ~ Eye Pain (typically behind the eyes) ~ Muscle, joint, or bone pain ~ Rash ~ Nausea and vomiting .

Severe Dengue Symptoms

~ Stomach or belly pain, tenderness    ~ Vomiting (at least 3 times in 24 hours)    ~ Bleeding from the nose or gums    ~ Vomiting blood, or blood in the stool    ~ Feeling tired, restless, or irritable .

Severe dengue is an emergency. If you or any of your family members develop severe dengue symptoms, go to a local clinic or emergency room immediately.

You must avoid infection by preventing mosquito bites.
